The Project

Western’s first net-zero energy building, to be named the Ronald D. Schmeichel Building for Entrepreneurship and Innovation, will house a state-of-the-art classroom, a digital lab and a “maker space” for 3D printers, metalworking, machinery and woodworking tools.

The Challenge

Given the poor soil conditions present on site, the design team identified that the soil conditions were not suitable for construction of the proposed structure.

The Solution

It was determined that a caisson deep foundation solution was required where Maple Site Solutions Inc.  installed 46 (1500mm) diameter caissons 15.0m deep.
