The Exchange District Condominiums – Mississauga

Scope: Shotcrete

The Project

The Exchange District is a mixed-use development by Camrost Felcorp in the heart of Mississauga, which is adjacent to Square One shopping Centre and steps to the new Hurontario LRT transit system. Once complete, the four-tower master-planned community will consist of residential, retail and hotel units and over 20,000 square feet of indoor and outdoor amenities.

The Challenge

The proposed 4 large towers required an earth retention solution to accommodate 7 levels of underground parking required to service the 4 high rise towers. Due to long term development plans, a solution was required for future tunnelling projects within the area restricting the use of any steel tiebacks.

The Solution

Maple Site Solutions Inc. was retained by Camcorp Construction to provide shoring services for the Exchange District. The job required shotcrete shoring, micro-piles, and tiebacks. Specialized GFRP anchors were used instead of steel due to existing utilities on the City Centre and Burnhamthorpe sides of the excavation, where it is anticipated that within the next several years, excavation will be required to complete capacity upgrades.
